Via the process called polycondensation, CHDM is a precursor to polyesters. It is one of the most important co-monomers for production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or polyethylene terephthalic ester (PETE), from which plastic bottles are made.

Uses/Applications

Polyester Resins
CHDM is a key building block in the production of high-performance polyester resins. It is commonly used in the manufacture of engineering plastics such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). These resins find extensive applications in the automotive, electrical, and packaging industries due to their excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability.

Coatings and Adhesives
CHDM is utilized in the production of coatings and adhesives, where it serves as a crosslinking agent or a component in polymer formulations. These coatings and adhesives find applications in automotive coatings, industrial coatings, architectural coatings, and specialty adhesives due to their durability, weather resistance, and adhesion properties.

Polyester Fibers
Cyclohexane Dimethanol is employed in the manufacturing of polyester fibers, which are widely used in the textile industry for apparel, home furnishings, and industrial applications. Polyester fibers offer advantages such as strength, resilience, wrinkle resistance, and colorfastness, making them popular for a variety of textile products.

Plasticizers
CHDM can act as a plasticizer in certain polymer formulations, where it improves flexibility, impact resistance, and processability. Plasticized polymers find applications in the production of flexible PVC products, such as cables, flooring, and medical devices.

Resin Composites
Cyclohexane Dimethanol is used in the formulation of composite materials, where it enhances the mechanical properties and dimensional stability of the final product. Composite materials reinforced with fibers or fillers find applications in aerospace, automotive, construction, and sporting goods industries due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance.

Polyols
CHDM can be converted into polyols, which are important intermediates in the production of polyurethane foams, elastomers, coatings, and adhesives. Polyurethane materials are used in a wide range of applications, including furniture, bedding, insulation, footwear, and automotive parts, due to their versatility, durability, and insulation properties.
